Mahogany Milestone

Exhibition • Wood Burning

The Northern Centre for Contemporary Art (NCCA) celebrated its 25th year cultivating contemporary visual arts, artists and audiences; and to mark the occasion they titled this years’ Members’ Show, Milestone.

With the theme of ‘milestone’, I firstly wanted to create a physical ‘mile-marker’.  I was interested in the idea of movement and the distance and time passed in between each mile-marker. The tree rings show the passing of time and, in a way, each ring is a new milestone. The varying lengths of the lines and distance in between lines show the varying paths life can take and the varying time in between milestones.

Unmilled, lacquered wood ‘slice’ with surface adorned with wood-burned patterns incorporating metal  inlay.

50cm diameter x 6cm deep.
